Otoplasty (Ear Correction) Surgery
Reposition prominent or protruding ears – restore self-esteem
Protruding ears is reported to be one of the biggest reasons for low self-esteem for many people – often starting at a very young age. Many people are unhappy with how their ears look and it is sad that even people of a very young age suffer from teasing and bullying due to the position of their ears. An otoplasty (or pinnaplasty) is a simple procedure that can be done to correct the ear position, make the appearance less obvious and reshape/resize aspects of the ear.
Before & After Photo's
An otoplasty is often referred to as ear correction surgery and is very common amongst patients of all ages – often starting from very young ages.
Prominent ears (sticking out) may appear overly large, causing people great deals of embarrassment, distress and psychological pain. From an early age, people are teased about their ears and the procedure is something they think about for years and years.
Sadly, the NHS rarely funds the procedure, meaning many patients have to either wait a long time for action or live in unhappiness. The otoplasty procedure corrects and repositions the ears to reduce the protrusion or prominence. Surgeons can either reposition one ear or both ears by varying amounts.
It is done as a day case, typically under local anaesthesia taking about 30-60 minutes in theatre, depending on whether one or two ears are adjusted. Some patients prefer general anaesthesia – which can be discussed with the surgeon during the free of charge consultation.
The ears are actually one of the earliest body parts to grow to the full adult size. For some people, the ears grow much faster than other parts of the body, meaning that the ears appear much larger, in proportion to their face. This can cause great psychological pressure on children and young adults. In some cases, even when a person’s growth has concluded, their ears still appear larger than the rest of their face, continuing the emotional distress.
Whilst there isn’t an exact number, research shows that people with ears more than 15 degrees away from their hear deem their ears as noticeable!
The otoplasty procedure is a procedure that can address the above issues and allow you to feel more comfortable without the need to grow long hair or wear hats & headgear!
The EarFold Treatment is completely unique and has revolutionised options for ear correction surgery. Pall Mall Cosmetics is one of the earliest adopters of the technique and work with one of the few Surgeons in the country who is able to perform the treatment.
EarFold Treatment is an alternative to the surgical Otoplasty procedure and has proven to be extremely popular with men, women and indeed children.
The main benefits are that it does not require any surgery, no anaesthesia (other than tiny amounts of numbing cream) and patients can typically return to work the next day! In addition, patients can choose the exact position of the ear before the final suture is made – meaning the desired outcome can be achieved to a high level of accuracy.
Pall Mall Cosmetics have a number of Plastic Surgeons and Facial Cosmetic / ENT Surgeons who are able to offer the Otoplasty (or EarFold) procedures.
All patients have free of charge consultations with the expert surgeons, who can spend time to assess and understand exactly what outcome is wanted by the individual.
