Split & Tribal Ear Lobe Surgery
Repair split or stretched earlobes to restore normal shape and size.
Split earlobe surgery is a simple procedure that can correct the damage if you have had a piercing pulled through the earlobe.
Tribal earlobe surgery can correct and reduce the size of stretched earlobes that may have occurred due to heavy or plug/tunnel earrings. The treatment is common for people who wish to reverse this appearance due to aesthetic reasons or career requirements (i.e. if one is joining the special forces).

Split Earlobe & Tribal Earlobe Repair Surgery Information
Earlobe repair surgery is a straightforward procedure performed in a treatment room. The surgery falls under two categories:
Split Earlobe surgery corrects earlobes that have been split, either from wearing heavy earrings or if an earring has been forcefully pulled from the piercing.
Tribal Earlobe (or Stretched Earlobe) surgery corrects stretched earlobes and can reduce the earlobe size. You may have tribal (stretched) earlobes if you have worn “plug” / “tunnel” earrings or generally wear heavy earrings.
Many people come to Pall Mall Cosmetics to correct the tribal appearance as a requirement for their career – typical examples include people who wish to join the special forces.
Other people choose to come to Pall Mall Cosmetics because they no longer wear the heavy/plug/tunnel earrings and wish for their earlobes revert back to their previous size & shape.
- After the procedure, you will be left with earlobes that are the normal shape and size
- The ears can be re-pierced if you desire
- The procedure is straightforward and done in a treatment room, without the need for general anaesthesia and surgery
Both split and tribal earlobe procedures are quick and straightforward. They are both performed in a treatment room, not a theatre. It uses local anaesthesia to numb the targeted area.
The split earlobe treatment firstly removes the edges of the torn lobe and then using sutures the earlobe is repaired to the normal shape and size. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes.
The tribal earlobe treatment is again performed in a treatment room and involves the surgeon using carefully placed sutures to close the earlobe hole. Depending on the size of the hole, the surgeon may need to remove some of the excess skin.
You can go home straight away after both procedures and return to work the same or next day.
The total price depends upon whether you require split earlobe surgery or tribal earlobe surgery, as well as whether you require unilateral or bilateral treatment. If there is significant trauma to the ear or there is a lot of reconstruction work required, the price may be slightly higher.

What our patients typically ask us about Earlobe Repair Surgery (FAQs)
Bruising and swelling will disappear within a week or less. If you bruise easily, then it may take slightly longer for the bruising and swelling to fade. There shouldn’t be any pain and the bruising can be easily hidden using concealer or moisturiser if you wish to do so.
The procedure only requires small amounts of local anaesthesia. The procedure takes place in a clinic environment, not in a theatre. It is extremely rare for general anaesthesia or sedation to be chosen for this procedures.
The procedure (split or tribal) is fairly quick and you can expect the whole treatment to take less than 30 minutes. If you require both ears correcting, it may take up to 45-60 minutes. Additional time may be required by the surgeon if there is significant trauma to repair or if there is a complexity to the earlobe correction – this will be fully discussed with you during your initial, free of charge consultation.
Yes. The procedure only uses local anaesthesia so it’s perfectly safe to drive home after surgery.
It is very rare to require sedation or general anaesthesia – but if this is required, the surgeon and pre-operative nurse will advise you on when you can drive again.
Because local anaesthesia is often used with this surgery, driving home is allowed. Although uncommon, if a sedative is requested, patients are not able to drive themselves home after the surgery.
There will be a small scar where the sutures are placed. However, the scar is very small and over time should completely fade!
Most people return to work the same or next day!
